LULU POWERS: THROWING THE PERFECT BLOODY MARY BRUNCH
L.A. caterer and entertainer extraordinaire Lulu Powers shares her best tips for throwing a chic and easy Bloody Mary brunch.
THE GARNISH
Whole celery stalks, carrots (keep the leafy tops), radishes, or fresh sprigs of rosemary are all great garnish options. To make them all the more enticing, Lulu suggests using an assortment of clear glasses, bowls, and small vases for display. "Make sure everything looks plentiful and inviting."
Quick and Easy Bloody Marys
(Serves 2)
- Bloody Mary Mix
- Celery Salt
- Tabasco
- Vodka (try Absolut Citron)
- Ice
Put all the ingredients into a shaker filled with ice and shake to combine. Fill glasses with ice and pour.
THE EXTRAS
"I love to put a stack of cocktail napkins out on the bar and a small sign or card welcoming guests: "Glad you're here, make your own 'Bloody' drink…"

THE FLOWERS
Colorful flowers are the perfect way to set a fun and cheerful tone for your brunch.
"I like to use brightly colored Gerber daisies."
THE MENU
When it comes to the menu, Lulu likes to keep it simple: "Frittatas or bagels with cream cheese, smoked salmon and all the fixings, and a platter of crispy bacon with shot glasses of warm maple syrup for dipping."
THE DECOR
Display your glasses on a tray next to the bar. "It makes it look neat and put together. I especially love stemless wine glasses." A pitcher or carafe of your Bloody Mary mix lets guests help themselves. "I use recycled clear wine bottles and pour the tomato juice or mix in using a funnel."
"One of my favorite things to do is have friends over for a leisurely Bloody Mary brunch on Sundays."
